Sophie the Giraffe is BABYS FIRST TOY, stimulating EACH OF HIS/HER SENSES from the age of 3 months:

Sight: At the age of 3 months, a babys eyesight is still limited and he can only make out high contrasts. The Dark and contrasting attention-catching spots all over Sophie the Giraffes body provide visual stimulation and she soon becomes a familiar and reassuring object for baby.

Hearing: Sophies the Giraffe squeaker keeps baby amused and stimulates his hearing. To begin with, the funny sound Sophie makes when she is squeezed helps to stimulate babys hearing, and then later, helps him to understand the link between cause and effect.

Taste: A Sophie the Giraffe is made of 100% natural rubber and food paint, and is completely safe to chew, just like a feeding bottle teat. Her soft texture and numerous chewable parts (ears, horns, legs), make her perfect for soothing babys sore gums during teething.

Touch: Touch is the first means a baby has of communicating with the outside world. Sophie the Giraffes soft feel, like babys mothers skin, stimulates physiological and emotional response that soothe baby and promote healthy growth and well-being.. Smell: The singular scent of natural rubber from the Hevea tree makes Sophie the Giraffe very special and easy for your child to identify amid all his other toys.

Easy to grip: Sophie the Giraffes shape and 18 cm (7 inches) size are perfect for babys small hands. She is very light, and her long legs and neck are easy for baby to grip, even from his earliest days.

The Story of Sophie the Giraffe...

The Little giraffe was born on the 25th of May in the year 1961St Sophies Day! In those days, the only animal toys available were farm animal or pet figures. That is why one day in France, a certain Monsieur Rampeau, who was an expert in transforming sap from the Hevea tree using the rotational molding of rubber as a toy-making concept, came up with the idea of designing a giraffe.

Such an exotic wildlife figure would be a first on the market, and its size and shape would be ideal for a babys small hands to grasp. Sophie the Giraffe, who looked exactly the same then as she does today, went into production on a Thursday, May 25th, whence her name. She was an immediate success.

Young mothers saw straightaway that she was a must for their children when the first signs of teething appear. Sophie the Giraffe helps baby stop crying! By simple word of mouth, the little Giraffes fame spread. From then on in Europe, generation upon generation of children were to love hearing Sophie squeak whenever they pressed her tummy and head! Vulli, a company based in Rumilly in the Haute-Savoie Region of France has continued to keep the jealously-guarded secret of how this wonder toy is made. Sophie is still traditionally produced to this day, a process that involves more than 14 manual operations. She is made from 100% natural rubber derived from the sap of the Hevea Tree.

Still the same, even after more than 46 years She hasnt dated in the slightest.. More than 30 million Sophies have been sold She is an undisputed star for the very youngThe archetypal embodiment of the early learning toy, Sophie the Giraffe is a must-have who enjoys widespread popularity and is genuinely loved by every parent and child. Sophie the Giraffe has become timeless and cross-generational.

Great toy!
My 5 mo old dtr lives her Sophie the Giraffee. I like it b/c it is soft enough that if she hits herself w/ it, it doesn't hurt her. She can hold onto it easily where as a lot of her other toys she easily drops.

5 stars for sure
Miss Sophie has been a great pal to our lil guy since he was itty bitty! He would hold her & look at her fancy spots in the beginning of their relationship. He would chew on her when his teeth were coming in & now he loves to give her a squeeze so she will squeak for him! As a mama, I love Sophie b/c I know she is safe for the love of my life to chew on & play with.

Love it!
Maybe I just love this toy as a mom, but I'm pretty sure my four month old loves it too. He flails it around and doesn't hurt himself, chews on it and just stares at it sometimes. Love it!

A hit with my son
My son loves Sophie and has been attracted to her since the moment he saw her. I love that he is so easily entertained by her and will try and grab for her (he is 4 mo). The only reason she doesn't get 5 stars is that the squeak is very annoying to me. It is ok when he is playing with her, but the second my 3 yo tries to "help" him and starts squeaking her, I have to take her away and hide her. I can say, though, that the squeak is worth it for the time it will entertain my LO!

I have the 1 out of 10 babies :)
My baby just doesn't care about Sophie. :( It makes me so sad. I was so excited to get her but I think the rubbery texture is weird to my daughter. It's different than I thought it was going to be - it really does feel a little like a dogtoy to me. I don't know - I'm just not sold that it's as cool as I thought it should be. I'll give it a little more time and maybe I'll be able to update with better news!

A-mazing!
Sophie was one of the first baby toys I was drawn to, primarily b/c it was cute, and secondarily b/c it appeals to all baby’s senses. It was the first toy my daughter really fixated on. It is ultra easy for her to grasp, no matter where she touches the toy, because it's naturally a little sticky (not gross sticky). She can chew on Sophie nearly anywhere because of its shape. I know it "seems" expensive, but if I think about the use we are getting out of it, Sophie really isn't expensive at all!

Best Teething Toy
It is a lot to spend on such a little toy, buy as everyone has said, baby's love it. Something about the look and texture is very appealing to them. So many good surfaces for chewing! Also, it squeaks when the baby hits it on things, providing another way to play with it.

Not a glorified dog toy!
My husband was very skeptical about my "needing" this for the baby, but after reading all the reviews, I was set on trying it. Our baby LOVES to chew Sophie's legs and make her squeak by banging her off of everything in sight! She is remarkably durable and much more desirable to him than any other teether in the house. She has been well worth the cost and has become a favorite travel companion in the car!

We Heart Sophie
I was a bit skeptical about Sophie initially because of all the hype. I thought she was just a fad. But we got one as a gift when my son was born and now we couldn't live without her. She is definitely his favorite toy (he's five months old). She's so easy to chew on and light enough for him to hold easily.
